Today, I am writing to you from St. Peter’s College in Muenster Saskatchewan. I’m attending a 2 -week writing retreat with my daughter, Lindsey. We are writing a joint memoir about how we became a foster then adoptive family.
I became Lindsey’s foster mother when I was a single woman in my thirties. One of the reasons I wanted to write this book is to expand people’s perception of what a foster mother looks like and different pathways to becoming a parent. We want to share our transformative story about hope, healing and finding out where you belong.
I’m proud to say I’m a contributing author to the Amazon bestselling book, “I am a Brilliant Woman” Volume 3”. This book was published in June 2018 and is available on AMAZON http://a.co/8w1nUGR, Proceeds from all online book sales go to Women’s shelters in Alberta. My chapter is entitled “Finding the Family Meant for me,” and I adapted my chapter from my upcoming memoir.
One of the reasons I stopped blogging this year is because of my book projects. The other reason is I’ve been doing soul searching about the purpose of my work and why I do it.
Over the last eight months, I’ve completed a new coaching certification with Kathy Caprino, the internationally recognized author, speaker and success coach for women. If you aren’t already following Kathy on Linked In I highly recommend checking out her blog and podcast series “Finding Brave” https://kathycaprino.com.
I am now a certified Amazing Career™ Coach, trained and mentored by Kathy Caprino in her proprietary 5-phase proven career growth process for women. This experience with Kathy and my fellow coaches was an incredibly impactful learning experience.
We explored how much gender does impact careers and the real differences between men and women from multiple perspectives. I learned new vocabulary to describe my experience as a woman, and how much of my experience is shared by other women. I learned new practical tools and strategies to be even more effective in my work with you.
Kathy Caprino created her model drawing upon findings from her in-depth research and coaching over 12,000 professional women worldwide. I am now licenced to use Kathy Caprino’s signature Amazing Career™ system, which has been tested and proven to accelerate career growth and success for profession women around the world.
We have to dig deep to find out what is the most rewarding and satisfying work that will fit with our true self. We can’t have real career success if we don’t know ourselves – our skills, talents, values, priorities and gifts. We must get honest about who we are, and who we aren’t and use this personal clarity to identify “right work” and our definition of success.
Here’s what I know about “right work” for me:
I’m a professional coach dedicated to helping women wake up, speak up, show up strong and claim bigger dreams. I know first-hand that life doesn’t always go as planned and our “happily ever after” sometimes gets derailed. The good news is, if we tell the truth, we can create space for greater possibilities.
Getting back on track begins with painfully honest answers to two questions: “What is essential for me to be satisfied at this time in my work and life? Who do I need to become to achieve my definition of success?”
Countless times, I’ve witnessed the power of using this personal clarity as the foundation for work and life design. When coupled with the courage to take action and collaborate with others we need to succeed, transformation happens.I specialize in coaching women who want to thrive at work they love, live the life they want and make collaboration with others work.
I’m officially back. Through this blog, I’ll keep exploring the career, work and life dilemmas of women. I’m excited to share new thoughts, tools and strategies and I’d love to hear from you too.
